Thank you for your interest in Ryan's Ridge LaManchas! Please Note: Because of our declining health we've decided to stop actively breeding LaManchas and have sold our entire herd. We still have semen available and will be updating our Semen Sales List soon. Some outstanding bucks are not currently listed because we had intended using them in our own breeding program. We also are anticpating another litter of livestock guardian dogs late this year (2005) or early next year.
We homestead 26 acres in beautiful northwest Pennsylvania. Our first goat was purchased in 1992; she was a Toggenburg.
As you may know, you can't have just one goat
so we acquired a few Alpines and then added a LaMancha. By 1994 we
had sold all of the other breeds and chose to keep only LaManchas. We have participated in the ADGA Linear Appraisal program since 1993 and have been on DHIA since 1995 (with the exception of most of 2004). We like to show the animals, but don't always have the time to get weekends away from home, so we usually only make a couple of shows a year. Maintaining a small goat herd, usually around 25 animals, works best for us. In addition to our goats we have a few beef cows, a Registered Morgan gelding, a Haflinger gelding and usually raise pigs, chickens and turkeys. All the livestock are fed locally produced grains, which contain as few chemicals as possible and young stock diets are supplemented with our goat milk. We also have four wonderful livestock guardian dogs named "Luke", "Tayah", "Katie", and "Bozz" for herd, property and personal protection! Both Dave and I were raised in this area, but in 1978 we relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. After living there 11 years we moved back to our roots here in Pennsylvania and also to the country rather than the city. We've been blessed with just one child, a boy, Ryan, who is now eighteen years old. In addition to the farm, we do some online selling and also homeschool, so we are always busy with something. Kids are reserved on a first come first serve basis. A $100.00 deposit will hold your choice. Deposits are non-refundable but will be returned if the kid is not born or if it does not meet our expectations. In the rare instance that a kid may be needed to preserve herd continuity, we reserve the right to retain it and will then promptly refund the deposit or hold it over until the next year, if preferred. We ask that kids be picked up or shipped by 5 weeks of age and the prices quoted on our sales list are based on keeping them that long. Additional boarding, shipping, health papers, and any special vet/lab expenses are the buyer's responsibility. We ship out of the Pittsburgh (PA) International Airport and accept online payments through PayPal, as well as cashiers checks and money orders. To help insure healthy, fast growing kids we practice a strict CAE prevention program (heat-treated colostrum/pasteurized milk), "BarGuard 99" is included their first feeding for E coli prevention, Probios and baking soda are added to their bottles, and Albon is used for coccidiosis control. Newborns are brought into the house for their first few hours and then spend a week or two in the kid pens set up in our attached garage before going to their permanent housing. To explore our site, click on any of the buttons at the top of the page and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or if we can be of assistance in any way.
